Vintage Detecto Mid Century Clothes Hamper
This vintage metal laundry hamper features beautiful hand painted floral elements on the front. While it has some wear from age, this piece is in nice presentable condition. The interior of the hamper is clean and the lid hinges work just fine.
See dents circled in red in pictures 6 and 7. Also in pictures 1, 2, 7, and 9 you can see some of the discoloration in the finish.
The paint on the pressed fiber board lid is chipped. I didn't feel like removing the lid and refinishing it so I decided to get creative and make a cover. I chose stretchy velvet fabric with a crushed finish to give it a vintage look. It's the kind of fabric that takes on a different hue depending on your viewing angle. I love how the color of the cover complements the blueish gray of the flowers.
I made the cover removable in case someone wants to refinish the lid some day. I have a piece of batting laying freely on the lid under the cover to give it a more upholstered look. To put the cover on, feed the straight side up through the back and secure the stretch cord into the locks (picture 4) then stretch the rest of the cover over the lid. You can reach up under the cover to smooth out the batting (if you want to use it).
Hamper measures 21" x 12 1/2" x 24 3/4" high
Hamper weighs 10 LBs.
When fully packed, the shipping weight is 16 LBs.
